Gun Control

Lately the issue of gun control has received a great deal of attention and has become a very controversial topic.  Personally I believe as American citizens we have the right to bear arms and no one should try to take that right away.  We should have the right to choose whether or not we want to own a gun to protect ourselves or even for sport. Although I think owning a gun is our right, I do believe the types of guns available to the public should be more restricted. There is no need for a typical citizen to own an automatic assault weapons used by police and military. Having access to these types of weapons brings danger to our citizens. Although some many argue these types of weapons are used for sports, hunting, or collecting, I believe that the safety of our citizens and children are more important than games or collecting. Those weapons are already in circulation and taking them away from law-abiding citizens will not stop shootings and murders from happening. These weapons should never have been available to the public and now that they are out there I honestly don’t know what can be done. I am not a politician and I don’t know how this problem can be resolved. All I know is we deserve the right to bear arms, but there has to be a limit to what kind of arms we should be allowed to hold.

  1. I agree with Cecilia, and think American citizens have the right to bear arms. Also I agree that gaining access to assault weapons should be limited though. I think one way to help gun control is to do a more thorough background check on people purchasing guns.

  2. I agree with Cecilia when she says American citizens have the right to bear arms. With that being said, I believe it is tough to pass a law that pertains to the types of guns that people may purchase. If somebody has the right to bear arms in this country, and they decide to purchase a gun, I bet they feel that they can choose any gun they would like.

  3. I agree with you, Cecilia! We do have the right to bear arms BUT I do hope that in the future, the process of owning weapons will become more difficult. In a lot of instances, it is not the owner of the gun committing the crime, but a family member. The fact that the guns are easily accessible to anybody scares me.

  4. Amen to that! I couldn't agree more, Cecilia! I think Americans should have the right to bear arms, but there should most definitely be restrictions on the type of weapons the public has access to. Unfortunately, like you said, now that they are already open to the public not a lot can be done to stop it. Also, even if they did take away our right to bear arms people would still find a way to own guys. Crime wouldn't be stopped just by taking away our right to own guns.
