I believe the most challenging part of doing this research
paper will be collecting and organizing all the facts and data. Since I am
taking the position that affirmative action has an adverse affect on society, I
need to find specific numbers and documents that support this. There is so much
information out there that it will definitely take some time and careful
consideration to pick the facts that are relevant to my argument. Additionally,
organizing my sources—five scholarly and two other outside sources—in a way
that will best support my stance and meet the length requirements will be a
challenge.
To me, the most enjoyable part of this paper will be having
the ability to write about something that I actually care about researching.
There is a difference between writing about something just because it is
assigned to you and writing about something that you find interesting and
relevant to your life. Also, by having
the creative freedom to discuss a topic that means something to me, I can
really get in to my research, and hopefully produce a strong, solid argument.
Finally, I think sharing my research topic with the class on
Thursday was extremely helpful. I learned that most of my fellow classmates had
not heard of affirmative action, or if they did, they weren’t entirely sure
what it was. Some of them even told me exactly what they wanted to learn more
about and gave me knew ideas of what to include in my paper.
