Blog 5

The hardest part for this paper so far has been coming up with a topic that will interest me enough to write about it for the next few weeks. There are so many topics to choose from, and I don't know if my original idea will work as well as I thought it would. When I am writing my paper I think the hardest part will be finding interesting and credible primary and secondary sources that contain supporting information for my argument. I think the most enjoyable part of this assignment will also be the research portion. Learning more about a topic that interests me is always an enjoyable experience. I look forward to becoming more knowledgeable about my topic during my research.

Research Paper

For this research paper, I believe the most challenging part will be separating my own beliefs and ideas from the ones I find researching. It is common for me to think something was my idea after a couple days of reading it somewhere else, so I will have to be sure to take good notes while researching to avoid this. I think the most enjoyable part will be learning and better understanding a topic that effects me so deeply, the cost of college. The more informed I am, the better equipped I believe I will be to deal with my own financial issues. Presenting my topic in class proved very helpful. I was able to get some good ideas of examples to look up. I also was given some good counter arguments that I will hope to address in my paper.

Research Paper

Righting about anabolic steroids has some pros and cons. There are only so many things you can talk about such as the detrimental effect that they have on the athletes and also how they are ruining sports by creating unfair competition. So I don't really know what else I can talk about right now so I'll have to do more research.
But also finding research should be very easy for this paper. Most credible sources agree with my argument since anabolic steroids aren't really promoted throughout sports, so I should have plenty of supporting evidence. This is a topic that I enjoy, I enjoy sports and seeing how athletes cheat the system and how they're effected by steroids.

I am going my research paper on the drug “molly” and how the music industry influence the college age group. I did not understand the drastic increase of the use of this drug until I had attended Ultra Music Festival. Madonna blatantly asked “Have any of you seen Molly?” Madonna is a famous icon, with people constantly getting influenced by her. Additionally, famous rappers are creating songs all describing the amazing effects of “molly” Does this influence college kids? The most challenging part of doing this research paper is gathering all the information. I have various songs referring to the drug, but I find it difficult to put it all together. I sometimes also wonder if I have too many songs and should strongly focus on two songs. It is also difficult to find research on the specific drug “molly.” Many articles are focus on a variety of drugs, not just “molly.” I think the most enjoyable part of this research paper will be learning the statistics alongs with finding out the negative effects of the drug amongst students. No drug is good for a human and I wonder if “molly” has an even higher effect during the studious college years. I thought the class input on the slips of paper was extremely helpful. It helped me create a drive for my paper along with what points to strongly focus on.

I am doing my research paper on how sharks around the world are being targeted just to be cut a part for their fins, and thrown back into the ocean to wait for their death by predators. I believe that the most challenging part of this paper will be finding a way to show the reader what can be done. I know that you can say to end the killing of sharks, but there are many other reasons that sharks are killed and it is more necessary for that. Even with the laws today that are to prevent to many sharks to be killed they are broken everyday and there isnt much people do or much that can be done. The most enjoyable part of this paper for me is that i have always been an ocean lover for my entire life. I started scuba diving when I was ten years old and i have a great love for the ocean. When I see the sharks being killed for such a small thing like a fin, it is something that i feel i need to change. I will enjoy this because i like to learn more about things that are occurring in the ocean and causing many problems for the life under the sea. It was helpful to me to hear my peers feelings on my paper because it showed me a lot of what the reader of my paper will feel. I usually just write about things in my paper and will see that it does make sense to me, but not always to my ready. They showed me that i need to look at the bigger picture. I need to explain why this subject means so much to me and how it affects me. They presented to me different views to look at on the subject and how to show the reader a more interesting paper that everyone would enjoy. Also views that i need to hit so the whole paper makes more sense and i hit all the correct sides.

With choosing the topic of  New Orleans Bounce music and how other genres of music like hip hop, R&B similarly relate to bounce music  of bringing different people of different backgrounds together peacefully . The most challenging part of my research paper has been trying to find scholarly sources that could make my paper creditable I have only found popular sources it made me so nervous that I was thinking of changing my topic. Which I think would be a bad Idea.  The most enjoyable part of typing this paper is already having knowledge of this subject and being able to relate to this. When it was presented in class I was very interested because I dance and listen to this type of music and I could actually relate something I enjoyed to something I did not which was English. The most interesting thing will be learning new things I never knew about New Orleans bounce music and presenting it to my peers. I really enjoyed telling the class about my topic because when the question and comments came out it made me think outside the box and opened my eyes about the topic that I knew so little about I really hope I enjoy writing this paper. I cannot wait to see how my paper will grow as we turn in our drafts.

Research Paper

I am really looking forward to this research paper, but I can already tell that I am going to face some obstacles. I am researching the effects of Obamacare on patient care in the hospitals. It might be a challenge to not simply provide my opinion, but instead I need to make sure I provide the facts to support my purpose. Also, this topic is very personal for me. I am a nursing major so I am looking into facts that will forever change my career path. This might become slightly discouraging and could possibly tweak my vision as a future nurse.

While that will be a small challenge, I think that is what will also make my research paper enjoyable. I believe it is important to be informed properly on current politics. I look forward to having facts about Obamacare rather than just listening to what people around me are saying. I think it will be beneficial in the long run to look further into the details that are often over looked by the public.

I felt that the exercise on Thursday was helpful. My classmates provided useful questions to spur my thought process. I realized after reading their comments that while I understand what I am saying in my head and I have my paper planned out, I need to do a better job communicating my thoughts in a way that the reader/listener will understand.

Blog 5

The hardest part of this research paper will be intergrading the facts and statics I get from my sources into my paper. This will be difficult because you have to use that information without plagiarizing. I think paraphrasing is pretty difficult but also using a direct quote and still making my paper flow. The most interesting part of this research paper will being able to learn about a topic I strongly believe in. I am very interested in the pharmaceutical field and I do hope to one day be a pharmacist so this paper will just broaden my knowledge of common prescription drugs. Unfortunately, i was unable to make it class on Thursday but I'm sure hearing what my classmates think of my topic would have only strengthened my thesis and overall paper.

Research Paper

So far, formulating and narrowing down a good research question has been a tough task. With my topic there are so many possibilities that could be argued for/against overfishing. I’ve never had to write a research paper where I think of my own research question before so I’m kind of drawing a blank. I’m having trouble as to if I should talk about the Ocean as a whole, or just part of it like the gulf for instance.

I think researching and learning about overfishing will be the most enjoyable part of this research paper. I love to fish and have been almost every weekend since I was four years old. So just learning about fishing in general is very interesting to me and I could never get bored of fishing; so arguing for my cause won’t be a drag.

Sharing my research with the class I think was very helpful. It showed me that my research question was too broad and not clear enough. The class gave good suggestions about how to change/improve the research question and they gave many good ideas on points I can argue with.

Research Paper blog 5

The hardest part so far for this assignment has been coming up with a topic for the paper. The assignment is so broad that many different things are possible to write about. I think that finding a good argument and finding research materials will be the hardest part for this assignment. Finding a good argument can be difficult if you are not too comfortable with your topic. I am still trying to perfect my argument, which has been a difficult task for me. Finding research materials will be challenging also because we need eight sources, and I don’t think I will find too many.

I believe that researching a topic you are interested in will be the most enjoyable part of the assignment. What I mean is by browsing the internet looking through articles, I think I will stumble upon some interesting facts and information. Also, I think forming an argument for my paper will be enjoyable, although it will be challenging at the same time.

Receiving feedback from the class was good in my opinion. I received a lot of suggestions and also realized that I needed to make my argument more clear. Some people in class didn’t understand what I was getting at, which I could tell due to the questions they wrote down on the small piece of paper. Receiving constructive feedback is always helpful, and I am glad that I received a bunch from my classmates. I plan on using it to make my argument more strong and possibly even changing the topic that I originally chose.

Research

I believe the most challenging part of doing this research paper will be collecting and organizing all the facts and data. Since I am taking the position that affirmative action has an adverse affect on society, I need to find specific numbers and documents that support this. There is so much information out there that it will definitely take some time and careful consideration to pick the facts that are relevant to my argument. Additionally, organizing my sources—five scholarly and two other outside sources—in a way that will best support my stance and meet the length requirements will be a challenge.

To me, the most enjoyable part of this paper will be having the ability to write about something that I actually care about researching. There is a difference between writing about something just because it is assigned to you and writing about something that you find interesting and relevant to your life.  Also, by having the creative freedom to discuss a topic that means something to me, I can really get in to my research, and hopefully produce a strong, solid argument.

Finally, I think sharing my research topic with the class on Thursday was extremely helpful. I learned that most of my fellow classmates had not heard of affirmative action, or if they did, they weren’t entirely sure what it was. Some of them even told me exactly what they wanted to learn more about and gave me knew ideas of what to include in my paper.

Research Paper

For my research paper I will be discussing how America has lately been outsourcing certain jobs to oversea countries in order to make more profit.  I believe the most challenging part of my essay is making my plea/argument that there should be a tax on business and cooperation’s that do outsource jobs.  Also, I think completing 8 pages will also be some what difficult.  Somehow, I need to make my readers believe that I am correct and make them actually want a tax on businesses that do outsource as well.  I think this is going to be most difficult because everyone has a different opinion.  I think the most enjoyable part of my research paper will be when I complete it and get to read the entire final copy.  This will be the most enjoyable for me.  Telling my class about my topic was extremely helpful.  I was given many new questions that I did not think about discussing in my paper that I will now discuss.  It will make my paper that much better.

Research paper

The hardest part of my research paper is narrowing down the thesis to one thing I can discuss and make a point about.  There are so many different  types of modern slavery and I am having a hard time deciding if I want to address slavery as a whole, or discuss just one type of slavery and how he we can end it.  I want to make people aware of every kind of injustice, but for the sake of this paper, I feel I should focus on one specific part of slavery.

The  best part of writing this paper is being able to inspire people to want to end this cruelty going on in our world.  It is easy to write about something I am passionate about, and I am passionate about bringing healing to the sick and broken.  It gives me joy knowing that there are organizations created solely to rescuing slaves and helping restore their lives. The research will be exciting although may be tedious at times, but I think all the suffering slaves around the world deserve that time.

I think it was really helpful telling the class about my paper topic because I got to read everyone's questions and comments about it.  They gave me specific questions to address such as, "how is slavery different today than in early America" and "what countries today is it happening in the most."  Also some comments suggested me to write how human trafficking is happening in modern America and to give personal accounts of their slavery experience.  All the questions and comments are helping me figure out what exactly I want to talk about and why.

research paper topic

I believe the most challenging part of this research paper is going to be choosing a side to argue on. This is probably because I have not yet started my in depth research process and need to get a little more familiar with the study of ADD and ADHD drugs.
The most enjoyable part will be actually understanding the effects of these drugs on the brain and how it effects someones personality. I'm looking forward to the research I find because family members and friends have had some bad experiences with ADD medicines.
Since I was sick I was unable to participate in the research proposal during class, however I imagine it would be helpful to get each others feedback. Since my paper shoots for a college audience as well as any other adult who can comprehend the material, it would have been helpful to know what everyone would be interested in reading on the topic.

Research Paper

The hardest part of the research paper is finding the topic and taking a side on the issue. It difficult to find something that is interesting that comes with a lot of research. I think that finding a topic that is relevant to me in being in college has really helped me narrow down my topic choice but finding the research to go along with it is still a challenge.

I think the most enjoyable part will be once all the research is done and really getting to write the paper. When concluding it, it will be really nice to see how the paper came together. It will also be nice to have the paper done. Not that I am intimated by it, but its for sure going to be something that requires a lot more time and effort.

I picked a topic, that to me, was very narrow but after my peers feedback realized the opposite. One person gave me a really good idea about narrowing it down to specifically girls instead of indolence’s. This really sparked my attention because models, television, and movies really do motivate us to look a certain way and persuade us to think one way. As much as advertising and media are persuading children to think in certain ways it still persuading girls and boys much older.

Research Paper

I think the hardest part of the research paper will be researching. Usually when I am writing a research paper i just find the information I want and move on, but for this one I will have to read, learn about my topic, find sources that agree with me, and then write. I also thing it will be difficult to sit down and write 8 to 10 pages. Although I think the research will be the hardest part of the research paper, I also think it will be the most interesting part of it. I am interested in my topic so researching and learning about it should be interesting. I think telling the class adn receiving questions and comments was helpful. They helped me come up with other things to write about.

Blog Post #5

For this blog post, I want you to talk a little bit about your research paper:

  • Describe what has been, or what you think will be, the most challenging part of doing this research paper.
  • Describe what has been, or what you think will be, the most enjoyable part of doing this research paper.
  • Describe what was helpful about telling the class about your research topic on Thursday. If it wasn't helpful, say why it wasn't, and how you would improve it.

The cost of college.

The cost of college has been rising for years. I understand it takes a lot to run a university and the expenses are unimaginable. Personally though, I feel like there is a constant nickle-and-dimming mentality. From $7 "online convenience fees" to paying 8 cents a page of paper, it seems that anywhere that is possible to squeeze some money out of you, colleges take advantage of that. I know that we are getting our moneys worth, but it all seems a bit overwhelming. Not to mention the late charges you can face too! I think that there needs to be a reform in how money on education is spent. One amazing documentary that talks about public education is "waiting for superman" I would recommend it.

Gun Control

Because of recent events, particularly the shooting in Colorado and Connecticut, many people from all political backgrounds are pushing toward gun bans in the United States. The new-found activists are mainly focusing on banning all assault rifles from civilian use. A major question i have for this is why? For one, just because a person cant shoot consecutively 20 times, doesn't mean they are going to think 'oh well i don't think i will  going to kill anyone now'. Heck no. Why take away assault rifles from the public who use them for hunting and sporting? The top ten countries with the most murders per 100 persons, all have full gun bans. Think about that for a second.
Totally banning assault rifles and other weapons will do nothing but turn a lot of citizens against their government.

As of today I have learned that wrestling will be dropped from the 2020 Olympics. It was just voted to be ousted over the much antipaction that modern pentathlon would get the boot. Wrestling has had its roots in the Olympics since ancient Greece and has been an official part of the Olympics every year since 1896. I think this is a terrible thing because booting wrestling, has compromised the integrity of the Olympic games. One of the longest lasting sports is gone while curling, pentathlon and cycling are still considered core sports. Wrestling is not just in certain parts of the world, it is everywhere in the world and pretty much every high school team has a wrestling team. Tae kwon do meanwhile, is still safe as an Olympic sport even though every winner since forever has been solely from South Korea. Wrestling used to be dominated by the U.S. but now Russia is the major powerhouse; not far behind are Turkey, South Korea, Finland, etc. I just don’t understand how the IOC can ban such a popular and entertaining sport.

I have a strong concern about the weight of standardized testing. I remember back in middle school if you got a certain percentage score, you were forced to take upon extra core classes in hopes of bettering that number. Kids did not get the privilege to take classes that were enjoyable to them. I do not think kids should be restricted based on one test. There could be a ton of reasons why some did not perform well on that one specific day. Standardized testing goes as far as to getting into colleges. That one score hold so much and determines many students they acceptance decision to various colleges. I do not think this is morally right. How does a four year work (high school) of dedicated study get override by a four hour test? Not everybody is blessed with the gift to naturally perform well under an extensive amount of pressure. I strongly feel that colleges along with high/middle schools should take the time and look over the positives of standardized testing. I definitely do not see a lot.

Back Stage Blogging

Beauty Blogging has become something bigger than the words they blog. These bloggers such as Man Repeller and Emily Weiss are going back stage and capturing moments that most cant see. Since New York Fashion week is going on there is a lot of buzz about all the high profile designers that are showing there beautiful clothing, but is there any props to everyone that makes the show happen. These bloggers are looking at the make up artists, the interns, the hair stylest giving them the credit that they deserve. But what is the blog actually doing? The blogs are letting the common people to idolize fashion just like all the famous are doing. This is bringing fashion to the real people. This is something that is really interesting to me since i love fashion.

Propaganda In The News

In today's society, I feel that there is far too much censorship and propaganda in the news and other big forms of media. Each of the different news networks have their own unspoken agenda that they are discretely trying to promote. They are constantly cherry-picking stories and arguments that promote their own political agendas, and they invite guests on their shows solely to harass and berate them about their social and political views. Often times, these news networks even use edited soundbites in order to make important political figures sound completely ridiculous. In many cases, the news network are caught red-handed in their untruthful reports, and must correct themselves on air. However, in most cases the damage has already been done. Many of the people who saw their original broadcast that contained the propaganda will never see the news network's confession. I believe something needs to be done in order to stop the spreading of untruthful propaganda in today's media.

Testing Today!

Today in middle schools and high school testing has become a huge issue. Everything that is taught in todays classes are to pass a test that show how the school is doing. Therefore instead of teaching and learning about things in the real world and things that will teach student what to be ready for in the real world, schools are basically being selfish. All the standardize testing take up months of time. There are only about the last month that the kids are actually taught about the real class. Throughout my child hood I have always been a scuba diver and my dad showed me the ocean and the life under neath it which has always brought happiness to the entire family. It was what we all did. When i got to high school my junior year i was so excited to be able to learn about the ocean in oceanography and all the creatures and how the sea worked. Instead all we did was do practice test after practice test talking and learning about things that didn't have to do with what they always talked about oceanography being. It wasn't until the last three weeks of school once the testing was over that we got to learn about the animals and dissect them and see where they were from. For me this ruined the class it was supposed to be one of my electives that as a junior i could finally take and i didnt end up learning mush of what i wanted to or what i should have been learning. I believe that if kids today were taught more about the real world and what the class had to do with the world instead of just taking test and getting an A so that the school looked good that we would be doing a lot better in the class. All of the test we take to practice for the FCATs and so on are just questions that are going to be on the test and not necessarily whats in the book or life.

Modern Day Slavery

Bonded labor, forced labor and human trafficking are all major forms of slavery in our society today. There are 27 million people in this world who are living in awful places, such as factories and working as slaves. Men, women and children of all ages are slaves in over 161 countries around the world, and the United States is one of them - proving yet again that we American's are not anymore perfect than the next guy. It is so difficult to hear the number 27 million, especially when it comes to slavery. It is a terrible thing that happens so frequently in our own "backyard." With nearly 80% of this number being female, it strikes me in a negative way. Just imagining women and young children and even the men being forced into slavery, simply breaks my heart. I hope that slavery is something that we can put a stop to soon. I know there are many groups or institutions that are trying to put a stop to this horrible idea, the End It Movement and Love Alliance, to name a few; and I hope that they one day will succeed and the people of our world will see their wrongful actions in condemning people to slavery.

Where Are All the Jobs?

As a freshman college student, I am concerned that there won’t be any jobs when I graduate.  More and more, I go into a retail store and I see people working as cashiers who have recently earned their Master Degrees.   Currently 53% of college graduates are jobless which equates to millions of people.   Now, experts are saying that a college graduate is more likely to work as a “waitress, waiter, or bartender then an engineer or chemist.”  This is really discouraging news.   I have to ask, where are all the jobs?  For starters, people with a bachelor’s degree have grown 38% in the last 10 years.  At that rapid increase, the job openings have to increase as well.  However, they are not, and more and more jobs are being moved overseas.   I understand that American companies outsource abroad to save money.  Why would an employer pay an American $20 an hour, when they can pay someone overseas $10 an hour?  From a profit standpoint, I understand the process in that if the cost is lower the margin is higher.  However, to change this trend, I feel the government needs to implement laws to tax American companies using offshore labor.  This will make the financial benefits of offshoring jobs less appealing which in turn may redirect their hiring efforts to local applicants and college graduates.  We have over a million educated graduates ready to work and they need that door to open.  There’s a popular phrase called “made in America”.   I think we need to start a movement called “hire in America”.

texting and driving

These days you cannot go in public and find a place free of cell phones. Cell phones are a huge part of American lives. Throughout the United States laws have been made prohibiting the use of cell phone use while driving. Such a law has not officially been passed in Florida, however a Florida legislation is working hard to get it done. Most of us find ourselves using our phones while driving and not even realizing it. Whether its for directions, texting, internet, or a phone call, people find some great excuse to use their phone while driving. What people don't realize is how dangerous it is. They don't realize how many people have died because of the distraction of their cell phones. Personally I believe the law should get passed. I am definitely one who is guilty of being on my phone while driving. Though I say it only happens when I'm at a red light, it's not true. I believe this law would help me be more aware of what I'm doing while I'm driving, and hopefully stop the clutch braking I have to do every day.

In case you hadn't heard...the Pope resigned!

On today's news it was announced that the Pope has decided to resign. In the Catholic faith this is a big deal. While I am not Catholic and I cannot really relate to the significance behind this, I don't agree with the harassment that the Pope has received by the public. Typically, the Pope reigns until his death and then the College of Cardinals elects the next Pope. However, since the Pope has resigned instead of dying, he now has a role in choosing his successor. Personally, I find it respectable that the Pope was able to recognize that his old age was preventing him from being able to perform his job to the best of his ability. While it does throw a few kinks in the usual tradition, the Pope is trying to keep the well being of the Catholic church in mind. I respect the Pope and believe that the public should allow him to resign quietly.

Women's Rights in the Middle East

I have heard countless stories of women in the Middle East who have been abused sexually, physically, and mentally. In countries like Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan, women have almost no rights. In general, women are not allowed to look at another man, work, study, go to the hospital without her husband's permission if she is ill, drive, and their punishments are barbaric. Women are gang raped, burned, beaten, and even killed if they disobey the rules. What is disgusting to me is that men can do whatever they please, for example, men have the upper hand advantage in every situation you can think of. Us women are so lucky to have been born in this country because in the Middle East, women do not have rights. It's incredibly sad to me that in some cultures, the Middle East especially, people are extremely barbaric and cruel to their own people. Some people argue that that is there culture and that every culture is different, but I think that no body deserves to be treated that way and it is wrong to be extremely sexist and to receive severe punishment. In Saudi Arabia for example, women are under the guardianship of a male relative their whole lives and must get permission from him for everything. Women are forced into marriage by the age of sixteen with men who are at least twenty years older than them and women experience a lot of domestic violence. It breaks my heart reading stories that involve women from all over the world that are mistreated and sometimes even killed.

Professional Athlete Salaries

I can flat out say I probably couldn't survive without the existence of sports in today's world. I've played sports my whole life, and I'm a sports fanatic when it comes to football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and golf.  Growing up, my dream has always been to one day become a professional athlete.  Athletes make a living playing the sport they are passionate about, and they make more money than most professions.  For example, Alex Rodriguez, third baseman for the New York Yankees, signed a 10-year 252 million dollar contract back in 2000.  Superstar Los Angeles Lakers guard, Kobe Bryant, makes just over 20 million dollars per year from the contract he signed, and that's not including the 30 million dollars he makes per year from endorsements.  Meanwhile, the average teacher only makes about $40,000 - $45,000 per year. Last year, the average doctor salary ranged from $156,000 - $315,000 per year.  These athletes’ high salaries have created a large debate in our world today.  Why should athletes make more money than doctors who save lives every day?  Why should athletes get paid more than teachers who educate the future leaders of our country?  I agree with the critics in this arguemnt.  We couldn't survive without doctors, teachers, and congressmen, but yet they still don't get paid nearly what some athletes do these days.  I understand the sports industry produces a lot of money for our economy, but that's not important as saving lives and educating young people in my eyes.
